Coyotes
Experimental documentary

A short asserting visual, material, and thematic alignment between found footage of military training, animals recorded under educational/scientific settings, frat boys pranking each other, a lingerie ad, a news segment about juvenile delinquency and self-recorded vandalism, a bald eagle eating a dead animal, and a man making a grave for a coyote. Premiered at Re-Fest Film Festival in 2024

A documentary born from an artistic and theoretical practice that integrates what it means to consume, document, witness, and edit/manipulate footage of violence and death, and gore as abstracted and failed heterogeneity.
Ones position as not just witness to a disconnected intrusion in one’s space: but how we are involved and affected in its reality—not to just show it’s digitized manifestation, or it’s claims as objective measurement of time and place, or its choreography, its transgressive nature. This short film began a lifelong practice of ontological reclamation and a deconstruction of what it means to be human and who gets a say.

Footage presented side-by-side of a woman shooting a gun for the first time with fireworks, fetish content and college kids trying to find a secret tunnel, and a Hindu sage beside footage of storm chasing.

A fictional recounting of a woman’s childhood with found footage of a high-school reunion bonfire, a fetish film, a 90’s feminist exploitation film, and a tutorial of how to get blood stains out of a rug.

Narrated in present tense, a woman recounts through subtitles her mother’s secretive behavior in the woods at night, her father smoking cigarettes, her teacher’s affairs, her juvenile attempts to rebel in an environment of complete neglect, and her eventual leave to a new city, and return for her mother’s funeral.
