I can’t say if it is. The AI adjacent psychedilic scenes, the more they happen, actually becoome less AI or more neccessary. Or maybe the movie wore me down. Olivier Assayas) This is a great thriller. I watched this at the Metrograph (I’m sorry), I have to tell the current curator there that this was a good choice. The plane ride to Hong Kong didn’t feel racist at all. Somehow. The match cuts and motion blur were also consistently on point. Nothing gratuitous. Maybe just the amount of dialogue, I think if no one spoke this movie would be dope. I actually have zero critique. This was just entertainment. Zero critical value to me, I mean I found no insane critique of class or reason or sexual relations, other than they were definitely had. It’s cool that she didn’t kill him at the end. I mean, yeah. The music was great. I sort of just looked over to my friend the whole time. I loved that this was shot on film. I loved her stumbles and jump cuts after she shot him, she did well. It was neither overly moralistic or humanist, as they say.. Rooted in time and place, which made it not upsetting. Or as upsetting as it could’ve been. I just think at the end of it she’s become a literal god of an international assasin for, like, on-behalf of gold-chain company. Good stuff. Accurate to thriller-hot, woman-under-capitalism. It was 2007. Shits way different now, Asia.
